Relationships – start again?  The lovers reunite …

This promises to be a very romantic lunar month, with Venus part of the New Moon line-up issuing an invitation to reconnect and start again, a dreamily romantic Pisces Full Moon and the lovers Venus and Mars reuniting once more ….

The New Moon in Leo brings a renewed sense of fun and enthusiasm for life. This is a perfect time to re-energize and revitalize. Leo is ruled by the Sun and this sign has all the life-giving qualities of the Sun, inspiring others with its warmth, energy and passion. Warm-hearted and generous, Leo is the royalty of the zodiac, confident and regal with a flair for the dramatic, so don’t be surprised to find a Leo centre-stage. Fire signs need to have plenty of fun, and Leos love this to be in grand lavish style.

The natural charm of Leo is enhanced by the presence of Venus retro very close to this New Moon, seeking to re-connect with past friends and lovers and start again, begin a new cycle, revitalized by the New Moon in Leo.

This New Moon represents the opportunity to begin a new cycle in your enthusiasm for life and your creativity – whatever inspires you and ignites your passion. Wherever this New Moon falls in your chart, this part of your life will receive a boost of new energy and vitality.

If your birthday is close to the date of this New Moon, your year ahead is likely to see significant new beginnings in your life, particularly with regard to your identity, your sense of self and your purpose in life. The New Moon is exact just after midnight at 00.53am AEST

The Sun moves into the practical and meticulous sign of Virgo on Sun 23 Aug.

The Full Moon falls in Pisces in the early morning of Sun 30 Aug (AEST). This is a dreamy, romantic time which can bring a yearning for oneness and spiritual fulfillment. The Full Moon in Pisces also urges us to find a balance between seeing the big picture and staying in touch with the details that ground the vision. If you have significant chart points around 6 degrees Pisces, you will be strongly affected by this Full Moon. The Full Moon is exact at 4.35am AEST, so the best night for Full Moon celebrations is the previous day, Sat 29 Aug.

The lovers Venus and Mars are both now enjoying the fiery passion and fun-loving party-time energy of Leo. Mars in Leo is doing everything on a grand scale. Through the lunar month Venus and Mars are gradually approaching each other, finally uniting in a lovers’ embrace at the beginning of Sept, just before she turns direct again (see below). It is as if he takes her by the hand and leads her back in her natural direction once more. From early Sept onwards, the lovers can be seen close together in the eastern sky, rising in the early morning before sunrise.

After 6 weeks retrograde, Venus turns direct on Sun 6 Sept at 14 degrees of Leo. She has now completed her retrograde journey, revisiting past relationships and completing unfinished business. If your relationships (or even your finances, as the symbolism of astrology is multi-layered) seem to have lost momentum – maybe even come to a standstill – things should improve soon as Venus moves forward again and picks up speed.

Venus is now ready to rise again, reborn and transformed as the warrior goddess after her recent journey into the underworld. In ancient times Venus was seen as a dual goddess – the Evening Star was her peaceful aspect, whereas the Morning Star was her warrior incarnation. Venus will reappear as the Morning Star from early Sept onwards.

Looking ahead to the next lunar month

Take great care as the eclipse season approaches again. The New Moon In Virgo on Sun 13 Sept is a partial Solar Eclipse, and the Full Moon in Aries on Mon 28 Sept is a total Lunar Eclipse. Don’t take any unnecessary risks in the two weeks leading up to this time, or between the eclipses, or in the two weeks afterwards.

Also, get on top of your communications and back up your computers – Mercury goes retro on Fri 18 Sept  🙂

If you’d like to know how the astrological energies are affecting you now and for the next twelve months, and how to use them to maximum advantage, book a personal astrology consultation with me now.

Skywatching   Venus will only be visible as the Evening Star until just after Full Moon, as she gradually appears lower and lower in the evening sky. Saturn can be seen overhead in the night sky.

Times given are for Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), 10 hours ahead of GMT.

In this Cancerian family time …

Have you welcomed a new baby to your family?? Maximise your child’s potential through understanding their birth chart with a Zodiac Child Report, great for children of any age J

Old friends and lovers reappear  …

… echoes of 8 years ago

and is this a Blue Moon … ???

What was happening in your life 8 years ago? You’ll probably be revisiting that as Venus turns retro this lunar month. And there’s tension in this New Moon chart around the theme of a war of words – obviously very applicable to the situation in Greece, whose chart resonates strongly with the current Mars-Mercury-Pluto contact.

The New Moon in Cancer on Thurs 16 July represents the opportunity for a new cycle to begin in relation to the feminine. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, symbolising women, mothering and the sacred feminine. This New Moon represents the beginning of a new cycle in the way we care for others, the way we nurture ourselves, and our relationship with women in general.

Cancer is a water sign, sensitive and emotional, with a strong need for emotional security. This is the sign associated with home and family, so this New Moon can also mark the beginning of a new sense of belonging, perhaps a new phase in our home and family life, or our sense of belonging to a ‘tribe’.

Cancer has a tenacious connection to the past – if you know any Cancerians, you’ll know they don’t like to let go of anything! The New Moon in Cancer represents the beginning of a new phase in our relationship with the past, an opportunity to emotionally release whatever no longer serves us. The Australian Bush Flower Essence Bottlebrush is particularly good for supporting people to let go.

If your birthday falls close to the date of this New Moon, this marks an important year of new beginnings in your life, particularly with regard to your identity, your sense of self and your purpose in life. The New Moon is exact at 11.24am AEST.

There’s tension in this New Moon chart around the theme of a war of words – obviously very applicable to the current situation in Greece, whose Ascendant at 13 Cancer picks up the Mars-Mercury-Pluto contact at 14 Cancer-Capricorn. Greece’s chart has been triggered for the last few years, especially by last year’s Cardinal Grand Cross, creating a situation that’s been a long time brewing, and will result in massive change in the way Greece relates in Europe and internationally.

Venus goes retrograde on Sat 25 July. Venus signifies our urge to relate to others, so don’t be surprised if old friends and lovers reappear in your life during the retrograde phase of Venus – you may hear from people you haven’t seen for ages.  Or you may be the one seeking to reconnect.  Venus retrograde often brings an opportunity to revisit past relationships, especially if there is any unfinished business there.  With Venus at zero degrees Virgo and retrograding back through Leo, the ties that are likely to be revisited are ones that involved enjoying life to the full.

Venus retrograde periods move through 8-year cycles, so think back to what was happening for you eight years ago in July-Sept 2007 when Venus last went retrograde in Virgo/Leo, for insight into what the themes might be for you this time round.  Venus is retrograde for six weeks until 6 Sept 2015, and apart from the first few days, will be spending all that time in Leo. If you have Taurus, Libra or Leo prominent in your chart, this Venus retrograde cycle is likely to have a strong impact on you.

Venus will only continue to be visible as the Evening Star for a short time after she turns retrograde.  From then on, Venus will be seen lower in the evening sky until she is no longer visible (as she gets closer and closer to the Sun). Her disappearance was seen in ancient cultures as Venus’ passage through the underworld, (corresponding for example to the Sumerian myth of the descent of Inanna), followed by her rebirth and transformation as the Morning Star.  In ancient times Venus was seen as a dual goddess – the Evening Star was her peaceful aspect, whereas the Morning Star was her warrior incarnation, and the rebirth of the Morning Star was seen as an auspicious time to go into battle.  Venus will reappear as the Morning Star from early Sept onwards.

Uranus goes retrograde on Sun 26 July at 20 degrees Aries.  This gives you the opportunity to review your life from a perspective of increased awareness and heightened consciousness, especially any innovation you may have introduced in the last 7 months. The house that Uranus is currently moving through will be the area of your life currently under this kind of review. If your birthday is close to 10 April, you could be experiencing the negative side of Uranus which is destabilization and chaos – transform this by recognising this opportunity to bring more awareness into your life and be more authentically yourself, a classic time for re-inventing yourself so you can reveal the true you.  Uranus is retrograde for 5 months until Sat 26 Dec 2015.

The Full Moon in Aquarius on Fri 31 July highlights the need to balance the needs of the individual with those of the collective, and is likely to bring new and experimental ideas into sharp focus. The Full Moon is exact at 8.42pm AEST.

Is this a Blue Moon? Well that all depends … If you define a Blue Moon as two Full Moons in a calendar month, then yes it is, but if you take the more traditional astrological definition of a Blue Moon, two Full Moons in the same zodiac sign – a somewhat rarer occurrence, then no, it isn’t.

Saturn grinds to a halt on Sun 2 Aug following its recent retrograde period, ready to go direct again at 28 degrees Scorpio.  If your birthday is close to 21 Nov or this degree is significant in your chart, you’ll have been feeling the heavy energy of Saturn sitting on this point for the previous 3 weeks, with a further three weeks to look forward to (!).  The energy of Saturn asks us to re-evaluate the area of life it is currently contacting, to take full responsibility for ourselves and our actions, and to cut away any dead wood – which ultimately stimulates new growth.  It is also very good at demanding that we do a reality check.  The forward motion of Saturn enables us to test and put into practice over the next seven months whatever we have learned about social responsibility, self-discipline and material reality during its retrograde phase.

Mars moves out of home-loving Cancer and into the spotlight of Leo on Sun 9 Aug (AEST), where he will gradually catch up with Venus, uniting with her at the beginning of Sept just before she turns direct again on Sun 6 Sept. Together they both enjoy the fiery passion and fun-loving energy of Leo. From early Sept onwards, the lovers can be seen close together in the east, in the early morning sky before sunrise.

Jupiter moves into Virgo on Tues 11 Aug. Jupiter in Virgo is likely to bring legal, ethical and moral issues to the fore in areas traditionally associated with Virgo, such as health and medicine, mental health and service industries in general. Virgo is a sign associated with purity, so we can expect legal reforms to focus on higher standards and purity of content (eg in medical supplies or food). Virgo focuses on detail, so legal changes may focus more on details than the overall ‘big picture’ – not necessarily a good thing, and can certainly result in making mountains out of molehills!

Looking ahead to next lunar month …

Times given are for Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), 10 hours ahead of GMT.

Solstice time &
 Fortune favours Leos

This is a very dynamic New Moon, falling in Gemini in the very early hours of Wed 17 June.  Mars is closely configured with this new Moon, adding a surge of energy and a strong desire to take action, now – to start a new cycle in the way we communicate, network and exchange ideas.  There may be a sense of urgency too, as we’ve just come out of the frustrations of Mercury retrograde!

Gemini is an Air sign, ruled by the planet Mercury, giving this sign a combination of sociability and extreme curiosity – the answer to one question simply creates more questions!  As an Air sign, Gemini is naturally objective and rational, and so has a real talent for dealing with information.  Other associations with Gemini are education and the media – the natural curiosity of this sign often makes learning effortless.  A New Moon in the sign of Gemini can usher in a new cycle in any of these areas.

If your birthday falls close to this New Moon, within a day either side, this marks a year of significant new beginnings in your life, particularly with regard to your identity and your sense of purpose in life.

The New Moon falls at 25 degrees Gemini.  If you have points in your birth chart close to this degree (within one degree) you can expect to begin a new cycle connected with that energy (eg relationships for Venus).

For everyone else, look at the house this New Moon falls in – you have the opportunity to begin a new cycle in this area of your life (eg career if it falls in your 10h house).

The New Moon is exact at 00.05am (Qld time) so remember to put out your intentions in the following 24 hrs.

Expect some power and control struggles around Sat 20 June as Saturn and Pluto make a  challenging contact in the sky.  If you find yourself on the receiving end of this, take full responsibility for your part in the dynamic and look at where you might be giving away your power.  The positive expression of this dynamic is being empowered and taking full responsibility for your use of power.

The Solstice falls in the early morning of Mon 22 June AEST – which means it will be on Sun 21 June in Europe and the Americas – as the Sun moves into the sign of Cancer at 2.38am AEST.  This is the Winter Solstice in the southern hemisphere, the shortest day of the year (and longest night) as the Sun reaches its northernmost point – from here on, the days will lengthen again as we move towards Spring.  If you’re in the northern hemisphere, reverse all that – it’s the Summer Solstice, the longest day and the shortest night, after which the days will shorten as you move towards Autumn.  In the Celtic calendar, these were very significant festivals – Midwinter and Midsummer respectively, celebrated with bonfires (Midwinter), feasting, dancing and celebration.  It was said to be a time when magic was in the air, as shown in Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

The lovers Venus and Mars are in harmony at the start of this lunar month, with Venus in fun-loving Leo and Mars in versatile Gemini, both enjoying the social whirl.  Irritation sets in once more though when Mars goes into Cancer on 24 June, and misunderstandings are frequent again.

Fortune is favouring Leos at the moment, with both Venus and Jupiter (the planets traditionally associated with good fortune) in this royal sign.  Venus is fast approaching Jupiter – they will be united on Wed 1 July at 21 degrees Leo, and with Uranus forming part of the picture, there could be an element of pleasant surprise.  If you have planets at this degree (within a degree either side) you can expect Lady Fortune to smile on you at this time.  Venus and Jupiter will be visible all month as bright stars very close together in the evening sky just after sunset – look to the west and about 45 degrees above the sunset.  They’ll be closest around the time of the Full Moon.

The Full Moon falls in Capricorn on Thurs 2 July, bringing the difference between public and private life into sharp focus.  The Full Moon invites us to find a balance between these two opposing polarities of work and home. If there is something you have been working towards for a while, this Full Moon is likely to bring things to fruition with a sense of achievement.  The Full Moon is exact at 12.19pm AEST – so the best night for ceremony is the previous evening.

Looking ahead to next lunar month …

The next New Moon falls in Cancer on Thurs 16 July 2015, exact at 11.24am AEST at 23 degrees Cancer.  And Venus goes retro next month ….

If you’d like to know how the current astrological energies are affecting you personally now and for the next twelve months, how to work with them positively and use them to maximum advantage, book a personal astrology consultation with me now.

Happy Solstice!

Time to integrate visionary ideals …

and patience needed with Mercury retro delays and miscommunications

A big thank you to everyone who came along to the Discovery event at Kawana last weekend. It was great to get to know many of you in person and of course to meet new faces too!

I’m excited to be offering a new workshop this coming Sunday, exploring the traditional wisdom of the Moon. It’s open to everyone, you don’t need astrological knowledge to come along.  More details here.

Get ready and mark these dates in your diary – Mercury is going retrograde next Tuesday  🙂

The New Moon falls in Taurus on Mon 18 May, signalling an opportunity to begin a new cycle in our relationship with the physical world. It invites us to connect deeply with the land, to appreciate the abundance of Nature, to acknowledge the sacred beauty of the Earth and to embody this by stepping into our protective role as her guardians. Increasingly, governments are waking up to the dangers of pesticides, herbicides and GMOs as more scientific evidence of their harmful impact comes to light. This New Moon in Taurus is an energetic invitation for us to step up and protect Mother Earth.

Taurus is an Earth sign, patient and grounded, with an appreciation of the finer things in life. Taurus is sensuous and has a love of luxury, so make time now for some pampering and indulgence.

Taurus is also associated with security in its many forms – emotional, material and financial – and this need for security (or more accurately, the fear of lack of security) can give rise to the sign’s tendency towards possessiveness and material accumulation. Use the energies of this lunar month to explore your own security needs and your own relationship with abundance.

If your birthday falls close to this New Moon, within a day either side, you are likely to be strongly affected as it marks a year of new beginnings in your life, particularly with regard to your identity and your sense of purpose.

The New Moon falls at 26 degrees Taurus. If you have points in your birth chart close to this degree (within one degree) expect the part of your life associated with that energy (eg relationships for Venus) to begin a significant new cycle.

The New Moon is exact at 2.13pm AEST. Remember to put out your New Moon resolutions in the following 24 hrs.

Mercury goes retrograde on Tues 19 May for 3 weeks, bringing the potential for confusion, mistakes and delays.  Double-check that any messages you leave actually get through OK, and that you haven’t double-booked any appointments … and that you have your keys with you. 🙂   Also be prepared for delays in transportation, especially on flights.  This is not a good time to make any major purchases or sign contracts, unless you’re prepared to revise your plans (and take purchases back to the shop) down the track.  It is however a great time to catch up on all your paperwork, and reorganize so you can be more streamlined.  Mercury is retrograde until Fri 12 June.

The Full Moon falls in Sagittarius in the wee hours of Wed 3 June, shedding light on our need to find a deeper meaning in life, not getting lost in mind-numbing trivia. This Full Moon urges us to find a balance between our need to enthusiastically explore and our need to approach an issue rationally, collecting information first rather than acting impetuously. There may be challenges around issues of trust. The Full Moon is exact at 2.18am AEST, so if you’re planning a Full Moon celebration, the best time for ceremony is the Tues evening.

As with last month, the lovers Venus and Mars still don’t have much in common at the start of this lunar month– they’re in adjacent signs which just irritate or completely misunderstand each other, Venus in home-loving Cancer and Mars in social Gemini. This irritability gives way to fun, co-operation and harmony when Venus moves into fiery Leo on Sat 6 June AEST. This is a great combination for throwing parties and entertaining for the rest of this lunar month.

Neptune slows to a standstill ready to turn retrograde on Fri 12 June at 9 degrees Pisces, softening boundaries and looking for solutions that are all-inclusive, reminding us that we all belong to one humanity. For the next five months, we have the opportunity to revisit the dreams and visions of the past seven months, and to integrate the inspirational and visionary energy of Neptune more fully into our lives.  At the other end of the Neptunian spectrum, we also have the opportunity to review the ways in which illusion, self-deception and escapism may play roles in our lives, and to turn this around so we can connect more fully with the spiritual longing of Neptune.  Neptune is retrograde until Thurs 19 Nov.

Saturn moves back into Scorpio on Mon 15 June as part of its current retro journey. If you have planets at the end of Scorpio, Saturn will be revisiting them now, and a third time when it goes direct again in August. For insights into what this might mean for you, cast your mind back to December 2014 when you had the first Saturn contact at this point. The energy is more intense now than it was in December last year as Saturn is now moving very slowly. Saturn contacts are typically a time of re-evaluation – deciding whether this part of your life is as you would like it, or whether to cut your losses now and move on. It can also bring increased responsibility, possibly achievement if the hard work’s been put in; if you’ve cut corners though, you’re likely to come unstuck under Saturn’s influence. Saturn can also bring a reality check and often, a sense of loss.

Looking ahead to next lunar month …

The next New Moon falls in Gemini on Wed 17 June 2015, exact at 00.05am AEST at 25 degrees Gemini. The Solstice falls on Mon 22 June at 2.38am AEST – which means it will be on Sun 21 June in Europe and the Americas.

New Moon in Aries 2015

New Moon in Aries: Sun 19 April 2015, exact at 4.56am Queensland time (AEST) at 28 degrees Aries

Full Moon in Scorpio: Mon 4 May 2015, exact at 1.42pm Queensland time (AEST) at 13 degrees Scorpio

Skywatching:  At sunset, Venus twinkles in the west as the Evening Star, and Jupiter is visible as a very bright star overhead. Saturn rises in the east soon after sunset. At Full Moon, Saturn will be seen rising just below the Moon.

Times given are for Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), 10 hours ahead of GMT.

Time for pioneering action

Secrets coming to light

Last month’s eclipses were particularly intense and it’s a relief to feel that we are now moving out of that period. Meanwhile Pluto turns retrograde just before this New Moon, on Fri 17 April (see last month’s newsletter), asking us to revisit power issues and anything showing signs of dying and moving out of our lives over the last six months.

.

The New Moon in Aries on Sun 19 April brings the opportunity for a bold new start. Aries loves action, and as a Fire sign it is full of enthusiasm and focused on the future. Energy can now be channelled into direct action, maybe breaking new ground in a pioneering or even crusading venture. You may find yourself taking up a cause that’s worth fighting for – or at least, putting a lot of energy into.

Aries tends to act first and think later, hence its reputation for being impulsive, so take a moment to weigh your options before jumping in feet first! However with Mars currently in Taurus, any action taken is likely to be grounded and relatively cautious, and the harmonious contact to Pluto implies concerted action that is likely to have powerful and transformative outcomes. A great opportunity to make a real difference!

If your birthday falls close to this New Moon, within a day either side, you are likely to be strongly affected as it marks a year of new beginnings in your life, particularly with regard to your identity and your sense of purpose.

The New Moon falls at 28 degrees Aries.  If you have points in your birth chart close to this degree (within one degree) expect the part of your life associated with that energy (eg relationships for Venus) to begin a significant new cycle.

The New Moon is exact at 4.56am AEST. Remember to put out your New Moon resolutions in the following 24 hrs.

The Full Moon falls in Scorpio on Mon 4 May. This is likely to be a very emotional time when deep and passionate feelings are revealed. This Scorpio Full Moon brings a strong possibility of secret or intensely private matters coming to light, possibly with a sexual content or concerning financial matters. Jupiter exactly squares this Full Moon, suggesting that overdoing things – whether overindulging in pleasure or overextending one’s resources – could be part of any matter revealed. Issues of trust are also likely to surface.

Interestingly, this Full Moon falls the same day as a challenging Saturn-Uranus contact – suggesting that tension between traditional ways of doing things and new innovative approaches are also likely to be part of the overall picture. Scorpio Full Moons often bring up relationship issues – and here the Saturn-Uranus contact could bring the added dimension of commitment versus freedom. The ultimate challenge is how to consciously integrate these, for example by using Saturn as a framework within which Uranus can have its freedom. What won’t work is Saturn trying to control, limit or repress that Uranian freedom in any way.

The Full Moon is exact at 1.42pm AEST so if you’re planning a Full Moon celebration, the best time for ceremony is the previous evening Sun 3 May.

The lovers Venus and Mars really don’t have much in common at the moment – they’re in adjacent signs which just irritate or completely misunderstand each other. At the start of the month Venus is in quick-witted Gemini and Mars in slow, grounded Taurus. Venus leaves the social whirl of Gemini for home-loving Cancer on Fri 8 May AEST, just before Mars moves into social Gemini four days later on Tues 12 May, giving the lovers an ongoing irritability between them. The answer? Just accept your differences right now ☺

.

Looking ahead to next lunar month …

The next New Moon falls in Taurus on Mon 18 May 2015, exact at 2.13pm AEST at 26 degrees Taurus.

And a heads-up that Mercury is about to go retrograde again – on Tues 19 May for its usual 3 weeks. Make sure all important documentation is completed well before that date.

Solar Eclipse New Moon in Pisces 2015

Total Solar Eclipse New Moon in Pisces:  Fri 20 March 2015, exact at 7.36pm Queensland time (AEST) at 29 degrees Pisces

Total Lunar Eclipse Full Moon in Libra:  Sat 4 April 2,15, exact at 10.05pm Queensland time (AEST) at 14 degrees Libra

Skywatching:  After sunset, Jupiter is visible as a very bright star in the east, while Venus and Mars are visible in the west, Venus as the twinkly Evening Star and Mars as the red planet.  Saturn rises in the late evening.

From 21-23 March just after sunset, there will be the beautiful sight of the slim new Crescent Moon close to Mars and then Venus.

Times given are for Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), 10 hours ahead of GMT.

Time of intense change, time of balance

Eclipses & the Equinox

The week leading into this Solar Eclipse New Moon is particularly intense with the last of seven paradigm-shifting Uranus-Pluto contacts on 17 March (see last month’s newsletter), and Pluto effectively stationary making it even more intense.

As we move into the eclipses, remember to respect their energy and their reputation for bringing sudden change: stay conscious and don’t take any unnecessary risks – this is a time of significant change, especially as both are total eclipses.

The Pisces New Moon on Fri 20 March is also a total solar eclipse, intensifying the effect of new beginnings associated with a New Moon, bringing significant changes into people’s lives – often sudden and unexpected changes.   Falling in Pisces, it signifies a renewed focus on spirituality and our sense of the divine. Pisces is a water sign, emotionally attuned, sensitive and strongly connected at a feeling level. Imaginative and creative, it has a sense of divine homesickness, a longing to return to source and merge into oneness. This eclipsed New Moon offers a strong opportunity to begin a new cycle in our spirituality.

This eclipsed New Moon in Pisces can also represent a new cycle characterized by the desire to help others, but be watchful as there is a fine line between helping others and rescuing them, overstepping boundaries which essentially need to be respected and strengthened. Pisces has a tendency towards self-sacrifice in the service of others, even to the point of martyrdom, so make sure you look after yourself first, otherwise you’ll be in no position to take care of others J

This eclipse falls at 29 degrees of Pisces, a point associated with the Fixed Star Scheat which has a nasty reputation for ill-fortune, especially drowning – it was strongly configured in the chart for the launch of the Titanic. So be very mindful around water at this time.

This total eclipse is visible in the very northern part of Europe – the path of totality crosses just below Iceland. The UK, France, Germany and Scandinavia will see an 80% eclipse. Other parts of Europe, parts of Russia and even Northern Africa will be see it as a partial eclipse.

Eclipses demand respect. They signal times of sudden, often unexpected change, so be extra careful during the eclipse period and don’t take any unnecessary risks.

Because of the added impact of the total solar eclipse, this is a very potent time for manifesting. Put out your New Moon intentions as close as possible to the eclipsed New Moon, or at the least in the 24 hours following. The eclipsed New Moon is exact at 7.36pm AEST.

As the solar eclipse falls at the very last degree of Pisces, the Sun moves into Aries the very next day, signalling the Equinox.

The Equinox falls at 8.45am on Sat 21 March AEST (20 March in Europe and the Americas), as the Sun moves out of dreamy Pisces and into action-oriented Aries. This is a powerful Equinox as the Moon is now also in Aries and still in its New Moon phase, a time for bold new beginnings! The Equinox marks the change of the seasons, the time of year when day and night are of equal length and the seasons come to a point of balance. This is a perfect time to explore what might be out of balance in your own life and find a way to restore that balance, whether it’s in your relationships, your family life, your work or any other aspect of your life.

At the time of the New Moon, the lovers Venus and Mars are both in their home signs – Venus in luxury-loving Taurus and Mars in action-packed Aries. Here they are both strongly in their own essence – Venus very feminine and Mars very masculine! From Wed 1 April, Mars will join Venus in Taurus (just in time for the eclipsed Full Moon, see below) where they will spend ten days together in slow languid sensuous style before Venus leaves for the giddy sociability of Gemini on Sun 12 April.

The Total Lunar Eclipse Full Moon on Sat 4 April issues a challenge to relationships. The Libran Full Moon highlights our need to relate to others, yet also emphasizes the need to find a balance between the needs of the self and the needs of the other, between the need for independence and the need for compromise. With the Sun and Uranus close together in Aries, the scales here are tipped strongly towards the needs of the self and feeling free to be oneself while in relationship to another. Meanwhile the ongoing square to Pluto invites us to enjoy power-sharing relationships. The bottom line – be authentic, and don’t get drawn into any power plays – stay empowered!

At 14 degrees of Libra, this lunar eclipse triggers the sensitive points of last year’s Grand Cross, and of course Uranus and Pluto are still very much part of this picture. Someone whose Sun is very close to this eclipse point is Vladimir Putin – interestingly, he’s been doing a disappearing act recently, and we may well find out why when this lunar eclipse triggers his Sun.

The Lunar Eclipse will be visible in Australia, starting at 8.16pm and finishing at 11.45pm Queensland time. The total eclipse phase is very short, only about 5 mins from 9.58pm to 10.03pm according to http://earthsky.org/tonight/shortest-total-lunar-eclipse-of-the-century-on-april-4-2015 (great graphics too). My astrology programme says 10.05pm is the exact point, so take your pick – either way, it’s only going to be total for about 3 mins either side of that time. The rest of the time it’ll be visible as a partial eclipse.

This lunar eclipse is the third of four consecutive total lunar eclipses, known as a lunar tetrad. Earth changes such as earthquakes and volcanic activity often occur around Total Lunar Eclipses, so don’t be surprised if there is increased activity at this time – and maybe the fact that we’re having this tetrad goes some way to explaining the increased earth change activity we’ve been seeing.

Jupiter goes direct on Thurs 9 April AEST at 12 Leo, indicating that the restraint and apparent lack of progress of recent months can now be resolved, and renewed hope and optimism emerge as things start to move forward once more. Ongoing reviews of injustice and other legal matters are likely to be brought to resolution now, especially any matters concerning royal families – ex-King Juan Carlos of Spain and Prince Andrew in the UK have certainly been in the news and their cases are now likely to reach resolution, one way or the other. At a personal level, if you have been questioning your beliefs or dealing with issues of faith or trust over the last four months, Jupiter’s direct motion is now likely to bring resolution and more clarity.

Pluto slows to a halt on Fri 17 April, ready to begin his retrograde journey. If anything in your life has been going through symbolic death throes in the last six months, this is a time when you are likely to revisit the whole process, perhaps at an even deeper level as you search for the hidden truths and the soul essence of who you are, the alchemist’s gold that can eventually emerge from the blackness.

Pluto is stationary at 15 degrees of Capricorn, the highly sensitive degree of the last Uranus-Pluto contact. Anyone whose birthday falls around 6 Jan is likely to be experiencing a very intense time while personal transformation goes on at a deep core level – the eventual outcome is empowerment, the ability to stand comfortably in your own power, but it’s a long drawn-out process which won’t be complete until the end of 2016. This will also be true for anyone with personal planets at this degree, or at 15 degrees of the other cardinal signs: Aries, Libra and Cancer. On top of that, the last two lunar eclipses have been at 14-15 degrees of Aries & Libra, sensitising these points even more. Pluto will retrograde back to 12 degrees Capricorn before turning direct again on 25 Sept 2015

Looking ahead to next lunar month …

The next New Moon falls in Aries, exact on Sun 19 April 2015 at 4.56am AEST at 28 Aries.

Second New Moon in Aquarius 2015

Second New Moon in Aquarius:  Thurs 19 Feb 2015, exact at 9.47am Queensland time (AEST) at 29 degrees Aquarius

Full Moon in Virgo:  Fri 6 March 2015, exact at 4.05am Queensland time (AEST) at 14 degrees Virgo

Skywatching:  Jupiter rises as a very bright star in the east around sunset.  Venus and Mars are visible in the west shortly after sunset, Venus as the twinkly Evening Star and Mars as the red planet.

Times given are for Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), 10 hours ahead of GMT.

Second New Moon in Aquarius – Chinese New Year

Last exact Uranus-Pluto contact

Mercury retro had a ball with us this time round, especially with the Queensland elections!  After two weeks of indecision and lack of clarity, we finally got an outcome (and a new government) just after Mercury turned direct again.

This New Moon is unusual as it’s a second New Moon in Aquarius, falling at the very end of the sign.  When we have two consecutive Full Moons in the same sign, we call it a ‘Blue Moon’ – here we have two New Moons in the same sign, perhaps a kind of Blue New Moon  🙂

This New Moon marks the Chinese New Year.  Like many traditional cultures, the Chinese New Year is based on the lunar calendar, and this New Moon marks the beginning of the Year of the Goat (Sheep).

As the second of two New Moons in Aquarius, this is a repeated opportunity to begin a new cycle in authenticity, and to reflect on the degree to which you are being true to yourself.  Aquarius is a sign associated with freedom, authenticity, and equality, at both the individual and collective level.  It is strongly non-conformist, needing to be different and unique, free of society’s expectations, a natural rebel.  It is also focused on social responsibility, connection at the level of mass consciousness and global humanitarian concerns.

Aquarius is an air sign, loving to debate ideas, the more original, inventive and zany the better.  Aquarians are very sociable and tend to be known as the party animals of the zodiac  🙂

Wherever you have 29 degrees of Aquarius in your chart indicates the area of life that will be most strongly affected by this New Moon – for example, if this New Moon falls in your 10th house, this signifies the beginning of a new cycle in your career or professional life.

If your birthday falls close to this date (within a day either side), this is the beginning of a significant new cycle in your life, in terms of your sense of identity and purpose in the world.

The New Moon is exact at 9.47am Queensland time.  Remember to put out your New Moon intentions within 24 hours.

The lovers Mars and Venus are very close in the zodiac now – Mars moves into his home sign of Aries on Fri 20 Feb with Venus hot on his heels, joining him the following day Sat 21 Feb.   Venus and Mars are united in passionate, fiery Aries for a few days before Venus starts to move ahead of Mars again, eventually moving into earthy Taurus on Tues 17 March.  For the three weeks that both lovers are in Aries, expect sparks to fly as both Venus and Mars will be eager for action and impatient, exhibiting the short fuse characteristic of Aries.

The Full Moon falls in Virgo in the early morning of Fri 6 March – so the night to celebrate the Full Moon is the previous evening Thurs 5 March.  The Full Moon in Virgo brings into focus our need for order and purity.  Virgo is a very analytical sign, and as an Earth sign it is analytical in a practical way, trying to improve situations (and even people!) in its search for perfection.  The Full Moon seeks a balance between the microcosmic attention to detail of Virgo and the macrocosmic holistic vision of Pisces. Check your birth chart to see which house is under the spotlight at 14 degrees Virgo.  The Full Moon will be exact at 4.05am (AEST).

Saturn goes retrograde on Sun 15 March (14 March in Europe and the Americas) at 4 degrees of Sagittarius.  Saturn retrograde encourages us to review the recent past and assess our ability to take full responsibility for our actions.  It also urges us to re-examine the way we have structured our lives.  This is a good time to look at the ways we limit ourselves, and bring our fears to the conscious light of day.  This is also a good time to review our ability to say ’No’ and ensure that we can maintain healthy boundaries in all areas of our lives.  The Saturn retrograde period lasts until Sun 2 Aug.

If your birthday falls around 27 November, then for a month either side of 15 March, this is likely to be a time of increased responsibility for you, as you enter a new phase of maturity and step into a place of personal authority.  Your workload may increase at this time – if you accept this extra responsibility, this can be a time of success and achievement.  Saturn is a planet where we truly reap what we sow – if you’ve put in the hard work, this is very likely to be a time of achievement.  However, if you’ve cut corners along the way, this is a time when you’re likely to come unstuck and if that’s the case, this can lead to feelings of failure and depression as you re-evaluate your approach to life.  Saturn is retro until Sun 2 Aug.

Uranus and Pluto make their last exact contact on Tues 17 March, after a particularly intense three months since their previous exact contact on Mon 15 Dec – the day of the Sydney siege in Australia.  Since then they have not been more than a degree apart, leading to an ongoing intensity from their combined energies.  If you have chart points at 15 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) you will be resonating strongly with this disruptive energy as you face unexpected challenges and go on your own journey of transformation.

This is the end game in the ongoing dance between Uranus and Pluto that has seen seven exact contacts between 2012 and 2015, a four-year period of revolutionary paradigm shifts that have included the destabilisation and upheaval of existing power structures.  This has been the major astrological influence of these years as people have risen up in fierce opposition to the corporate or political hierarchies and their attendant abuses of power – the Occupy Movement and the Arab Uprising are just some of the movements birthed in this period.  This is the energy of the late 1960’s revisited, when Uranus and Pluto were last in close contact, a revolutionary, paradigm-shifting expression of people power.  Uranus brings unrest and destabilization as the old structures are broken down – sometimes collapsing unexpectedly – a potentially seismic shift while Pluto is engineering deep and irreversible transformation.

After four years of intense disruption, there is light at the end of the tunnel, at least in some areas.  In the energy sector, more and more countries are increasing their use of renewable energy sources (innovation = Uranus).  The days of fossil fuels are numbered (the entrenched power-base = Pluto), and there is a global divestment trend happening as investors world-wide shift their money away from coal and other fossil fuels, and into the renewable energy sector.  There’s also encouraging news in the farming sector as an increasing number of countries declare themselves GM-free, standing up to the power-play of the agrochemical giant Monsanto.  A common thread with these and other similar political or financial instances seems to be that abuses of power by any government or corporation are becoming more and more obvious, and people will no longer tolerate them, in fact they are prepared to stand against them now.  There’s hope for the planet yet  🙂

Looking ahead to next lunar month …

The eclipse season is coming round again.  The next New Moon is a total solar eclipse in Pisces, falling on Fri 20 March at 7.36pm AEST, and of course the following Full Moon will be a lunar eclipse.

Eclipses demand respect.  They signal times of sudden, unexpected change, so please be extra careful during the eclipse period and don’t take any unnecessary risks, especially in the two weeks leading into the eclipses.

If you’d like to know how the astrological energies are affecting you personally for the next twelve months, and how to use them to maximum advantage, book a personal astrology consultation with me now.

Happy Chinese New Year!

New Moon in Aquarius 2015

New Moon in Aquarius: Tues 20 Jan 2015, exact at 11.13pm Queensland time (AEST) at zero degrees Aquarius

Full Moon in Leo: Wed 4 Feb 2015, exact at 9.08am Queensland time (AEST) at 14 degrees Leo (the previous day in Europe and the Americas)

Skywatching:  Saturn rises in the early morning and can be seen as a Morning Star in the east before sunrise. Mars is visible in the west after sunset. Jupiter rises in the late evening.

Times given are for Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), 10 hours ahead of GMT.

Authenticity – Are you being true to yourself?

… and Mercury retro

This lunar month sees the first of two New Moons in Aquarius, so a doubly strong emphasis on authenticity.   The disruptions of the Uranus-Pluto square continue, and Mercury goes retrograde so double-check all your messages and appointments!

The New Moon falls on Tues 20 Jan in Aquarius, signifying a renewed focus on authenticity – are you being true to yourself?  Do you feel free to be yourself?  If not, what is stopping you? Aquarius is a sign associated with freedom, authenticity, and equality, at both the individual and collective level.  It is strongly non-conformist, needing to be different and unique, free of society’s expectations, a natural rebel.  It is also focused on social responsibility, connection at the level of mass consciousness and global humanitarian concerns.

Aquarius is an air sign, loving to debate ideas, the more original, inventive and zany the better.  Aquarians are very sociable and tend to be known as the party animals of the zodiac  🙂

Wherever you have Aquarius in your chart is the area of life that will be most strongly affected by this New Moon – for example, if this New Moon falls in your 10th house, this signifies the beginning of a new cycle in your career or professional life.

If your birthday falls close to this date (within a day either side), this is the beginning of a significant new cycle in your life, in terms of your sense of identity and purpose in the world.

If you have any planets or chart points at zero degrees Aquarius, this will be the beginning of a new cycle with regard to whatever quality is associated with that planet – for example, relationships if you have Venus at this degree.

The New Moon is exact at 11.14pm Queensland time.  Remember to put out your New Moon intentions within 24 hours.

Mercury goes retrograde on Thurs 22 Jan (the previous day in Europe and the Americas), bringing the potential for technological glitches, confusion, mistakes and delays.  Double-check that any messages you leave actually get through OK, and that you haven’t double-booked any appointments.  Back up your computer before Mercury goes retrograde as this period can bring computer hassles – especially as Mercury is retrograding through Aquarius, the sign associated with technology.  This is not a good time to make any major purchases or sign contracts, unless you’re prepared to revise your plans or take purchases back to the shop down the track, so make sure important paperwork such as contracts and any major purchases are completed well before this retro period. It is however a great time to catch up on all your paperwork, and reorganize your files so you can be more streamlined.  Mercury is retrograde for 3 weeks until Thurs 12 Feb AEST.

The lovers are once more in sync when Venus moves into Pisces on Wed 28 Jan (27 Jan in Europe and the Americas), joining Mars, Neptune and Chiron.  Venus in Pisces brings a dreamy romantic feeling to relationships, a desire to merge into oneness, dissolving all boundaries.  Mars in Pisces is intuitively guided, taking action inspired by vision. The negative side of both Venus and Mars in Pisces is the tendency to put the beloved on a pedestal and only see them through rose-coloured glasses – losing all touch with reality, a classic case of setting oneself up for dis-illusion, which is what inevitably happens once the “spell” is broken and the illusion comes crashing down.

By Valentine’s Day Sat 14 Feb the lovers are close together in the zodiac and dancing to the same tune. Make the most of this romantic and non-confrontational feeling in relationships (appropriate for Valentine’s Day!) – boundaries are blurred and things get dreamily out-of-focus in Pisces.  There will be a marked difference when the lovers move into action-oriented Aries on 20/21 Feb, where Venus will be transformed into the Amazon Warrior Queen and Mars will act with a warrior’s directness and impatience – neither will be afraid of any confrontation, so be warned!

The Full Moon in Leo on Wed 4 Feb brings a sense of fun and enthusiasm for life – a great time for a party!   The Full Moon in Leo highlights the need to balance self-interest with concern for the community.  It is exact at 9.08am so the best time for Full Moon celebrations is the previous evening Tues 3 Feb.

As Jupiter continues to retrograde through Leo, signifying legal issues for royalty, another embarrassing legal wrangle has arisen concerning the Spanish royal family.  This time it’s a paternity suit against the former Spanish king Juan Carlos.  Although he was granted immunity from prosecution when he abdicated last year, apparently this doesn’t apply to the Supreme Court and the case is due to be heard there soon.  This is one of two paternity suits that have been filed against him.  Meanwhile his youngest daughter Princess Cristina is embroiled in a corruption scandal and looks likely to face trial on charges of tax fraud, as her appeal has just been rejected.  It was this corruption scandal that prompted his abdication last year.  And of course the British royal family are similarly (if not more) embarrassed in the US courts with the underage sex accusations against Prince Andrew.  Jupiter is concerned with the moral and ethical dimensions of life, as well as legal issues, so the underlying message here is a cosmic invitation for these families to revisit the moral and ethical values that they live by.

A reminder that the revolutionary combination of Uranus and Pluto – last exact on Mon 15 Dec, just as the Sydney siege unfolded – is less than a degree away from an exact contact for the next few months, keeping up the level of intensity we are feeling at the collective level.  The Charlie Hebdo shootings are one of the latest examples of the eruption of this explosive combination (the Boko Haram massacre in Nigeria would be another), yet in France at least we also saw the transformational consciousness that can come in its wake, the collective outpouring of heart connection, solidarity and light, as people rejected the potential negative response of fear and hatred.

If you have planets between 12 and 14 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), you are likely to be experiencing the disruptive energy of Uranus-Pluto at a very personal level this lunar month, as you face unexpected challenges that take you on your own  roller-coaster journey of transformation.  Know that something new is being birthed, even if things feel chaotic right now.  The more conscious awareness you can bring to this journey, the more transformative the outcome will be for you.

Looking ahead to next lunar month …

Unusually, the next New Moon is a second New Moon in Aquarius and falls on Thurs 19 Feb 2015 at 9.47am AEST (the previous day in Europe and the Americas) at 29 degrees Aquarius.  It also marks the Chinese New Year.  Like many traditional cultures, the Chinese New Year is based on the lunar calendar, and this New Moon marks the beginning of the Year of the Goat (Sheep).

If you’d like to know what the Universe has in store for you in 2015, and how to use these influences to maximum advantage, book a personal astrology consultation with me now.
