Solar eclipse on the Solstice

Solar eclipse on the Solstice

Time for forgiveness and release

Solar Eclipse/New Moon in Cancer   Sun 21 June 2020, exact at 4.41pm Queensland time (AEST) at zero degrees Cancer

Second Lunar Eclipse/Full Moon in Capricorn   Sun 5 July 2020, exact at 2.44pm Queensland time (AEST) at 13 degrees Capricorn

Skywatching  Jupiter & Saturn rise in the east in the early evening, both very bright and can be seen higher in the sky as the night progresses.  Mars the red planet rises around midnight.  Venus shines brightly now as the Morning Star.

Things are more than a little intense at the moment.  We’re in the middle of an extended eclipse season, which amps up the intensity.  We’re also (as I write) in the lead-up to Mercury retro (starts 18 June) and which adds to miscommunications and misunderstandings.  Definitely a time to stay conscious, mindful of your actions and calm!

The current astrology of the USA shows the huge significance of the Black Lives Matter protests, as the country begins a time of final reckoning around how power is used and abused in that country – in every sense, at every level, institutional and political.  The country is far more of a plutocracy than a democracy, however much it likes to call itself “Land of the Free”.  So what’s happening astrologically? The US is approaching its Pluto Return – it won’t be there till April-May 2021, with the period lasting till early 2023, but meanwhile we’re experiencing these harbingers of what is to come, as Saturn and Jupiter activate the country’s Pluto, awakening this sleeping giant of a nightmare, its history of trauma and slavery.  The invitation of Jupiter-Pluto is to transform our belief systems.  Throw in the eclipses for good measure (all three of them in this extended eclipse season are activating the US chart) which intensifies the energy further and you have quite a powder keg!

Remember eclipses bring sudden change into our lives, often from left field, so the more conscious you can be at this time, the better!  And don’t fry over the glitches and frustrations of Mercury retro – just take an extra breath and stay present!  Use the period constructively to sort out your files and paperwork (if anyone uses paper anymore?!!).

I’m working exclusively online now and available as usual, so if you feel in need of guidance in these challenging times, know that I’m here and available for sessions.  Just book online or contact me directly.

This month’s New Moon falls in Cancer on the day of the Solstice, Sun 21 June, and is an annular (total) solar eclipse, visible across Congo, Central African Republic, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Yemen, Oman, Pakistan, the border area of Northern India-Nepal-China-Tibet, Tibet, China and Taiwan.  Look for these countries featuring in the news around the time of this eclipse (in fact, just after I’d written this, a news item came in about soldiers being killed in a dispute on the India-China border in the Himalayas.)

I’ve written about the solstice in the previous post, as technically it falls at the very end of the previous lunar cycle, exact about 9 hours before this eclipsed New Moon and with the Moon still in Gemini.  The solstice marks the turning point of the seasons – so here, combined with this solar eclipse, it gives extra emphasis to the idea of this eclipsed New Moon representing a hugely significant turning point for us (see my intro above).

Eclipse annularAn annular solar eclipse is the ‘Ring of Fire’ eclipse, in which the eclipsed Sun is surrounded by a fiery halo, or ring (‘annular’ comes from the Latin word meaning ‘ring’).  It has the full force astrologically of a total solar eclipse, an intensified beginning of a new cycle.

The totality of this solar eclipse will last for less than a minute (just 38 secs), intensifying the sense of endings and beginnings that always accompany a New Moon.  The new cycles starting now are likely to be especially significant because of the added impact of this solar eclipse.

Falling in Cancer, this eclipsed New Moon represents the opportunity for a significant new cycle to begin in our relationship to the Feminine.  Cancer is ruled by the Moon, symbolising women, mothering and the Sacred Feminine. This is an opportunity to begin a new cycle in the way we care for others, the way we nurture ourselves and our relationship with the Feminine in general.

Cancer is a water sign, sensitive and emotional, with a strong need for emotional security. This is the sign associated with home and family, so this eclipsed New Moon can mark an important shift in our sense of belonging, maybe a new phase in our home and family life, or our sense of belonging to a ‘tribe’.

Cancer has a tenacious connection to the past – Cancerians have strong emotional attachments and don’t like to let go of anything!  The eclipsed New Moon in Cancer signifies it is time for a significant break with the past, an opportunity to emotionally release whatever no longer serves us.  This is a great time for Forgiveness ceremonies, releasing you from the energetic attachments to your past.  Thyme essential oil and the Australian Bush Flower Essence Bottlebrush are particularly good for supporting you to let go – contact me if you’d like to order some.

If your birthday falls close to the date of this eclipsed New Moon, this marks a year of highly significant new beginnings in your life, particularly with regard to your identity, your sense of self and your purpose in life.

If you have planets close to zero degrees Cancer (within one degree), this represents the beginning of a significant new cycle in whatever that planet symbolizes (eg relationships for Venus).

Remember to put out your intentions for this lunar month within 24 hours of the New Moon.  The New Moon is exact at 4.41pm Queensland time (AEST).

Remember my usual eclipse season advice during this extended eclipse season, and take extra care at this time!
