What extraordinary times we’re living in! The intense lockdowns (however necessary) are one manifestation of the Saturn-Pluto conjunction that occurred at the start of this year, now bringing in this new era of authoritarian control. This exercise of extreme power by governments world-wide is likely to continue throughout 2020 with the Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions we’ll be experiencing three times, starting this lunar month. From a metaphysical point of view, I feel this will be a really significant turning point for the world – people and Mother Earth herself. Fewer flights, less pollution as the factories close, they say people in China are breathing clean air and hearing bird song for the first time in a very long time. Finally we are taking drastic measures to reduce climate change, albeit inadvertently! – we’re giving Mother Earth a break and a chance to heal. Local community spirit is re-emerging as communities in lockdown in Europe sing and play music from their balconies, and many people are rediscovering the joys of growing their own food or finding they now have time, away from the mad rush of contemporary life, to take up creative pursuits. It’s an opportunity for us to discover what our core values really are, and to break our dependence on the rampant consumerism that characterizes our lives (another manifestation of Uranus in Taurus).
Following on from the heavy energy of the authoritarian Saturn-Pluto conjunction in January of this year, extending the theme into extreme uses of power as I mentioned above, we have the Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions occurring three times this year in April, June and November.
Jupiter expands whatever it touches, and here it is configured with Pluto, god of the Underworld, signifying power – often hidden power – in both its light and dark forms: misuse and abuse of power when manifesting negatively, and empowerment in its positive form.
Jupiter is associated with belief systems, so we can expect the power of belief systems to be a big player in events unfolding this year, and maybe massive transformation for us all. This is interesting in the context of COVID-19 where for example, we have the belief system of the establishment (and any covert players like big pharma) being in a very strong position of control. The potential though, with Pluto present, is for the complete breakdown of the old belief system – and its subsequent transformation.
The first of these Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions falls on Sun 5 April at 24 Capricorn, just two degrees away from the Saturn-Pluto conjunction of 13 Jan (AEST).
