What extraordinary times we’re living in!  The intense lockdowns (however necessary) are one manifestation of the Saturn-Pluto conjunction that occurred at the start of this year, now bringing in this new era of authoritarian control. This exercise of extreme power by governments world-wide is likely to continue throughout 2020 with the Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions we’ll be experiencing three times, starting this lunar month.  The Astrology of the pandemic is absolutely fascinating and I’ve shared some in-depth analyses on my Chirone Shakti-Stargazer Astrology Facebook page, so head over there if you want to find out more!

*

The New Moon on Tues 24 March falls in Aries, bringing the opportunity for a bold and exciting new start.  Aries’ natural approach to life is to take action, breaking new ground in a pioneering or even crusading venture, or taking up a cause that’s worth fighting for.

As a Fire sign, Aries is full of enthusiasm and focused on the future.  Aries tends to act first and think later, hence its reputation for being impulsive, so take a moment to weigh your options before jumping in feet first!

In its positive manifestation, Aries is pioneering, boldly going where no–one has gone before, carving out a new, independent path and leading the way.  Aries tends to be fearless, the kind of leader who says “Follow me!” as they race ahead.  They’re also naturally competitive and like to be first.

When manifesting negatively however, Aries can be impatient, impulsive and aggressive, often with a quick temper.  Mars, the ruler of Aries, was after all the god of War.  Aries can also be very direct, hence its reputation for foot-in-mouth bluntness.

This New Moon is closely configured with Chiron, the archetype of the Wounded Healer, suggesting that this New Moon represents the beginning of a new cycle in our healing journey.  This gives an interesting added dimension to the COVID-19 pandemic that is currently escalating so rapidly, and maybe this will mark the beginning of a new phase in some way, perhaps signalling a new pioneering treatment for the COVID-19 virus.  The placement in Aries could also indicate a new cycle in dealing with toxic masculinity, after all the #MeToo revelations and the recent sentencing of Harvey Weinstein. Keep an eye on the news to see how this may play out!

Crisis chineseThe New Moon with Chiron is also an opportunity for Mother Earth to heal – just witness satellite photos of clean air in China, and fish and even dolphins returning to the now-clear waters of Venice canals.  I’ve already written about a crisis representing both danger and opportunity – if you’ve missed that blog it’s here.

If your birthday falls close to this date (within a day either side), this is the beginning of a significant new cycle in your life, particularly with regard to your sense of identity and purpose in life. The influence of Chiron means that this could be a significant new cycle in your own healing, or perhaps you’re at the stage where you can now bring healing into your work in some way.

This New Moon falls at 4 degrees Aries.  If you have points in your birth chart close to this degree (within one degree) expect the part of your life associated with that planet (eg relationships for Venus) to begin a significant new cycle.

Wherever you have 4 degrees of Aries in your chart is the area of your life that will be affected by this New Moon – for example, if it falls in your 10th house, this signifies the beginning of a new cycle in your career or professional life.

The New Moon is exact at 7.28pm  AEST.  Remember to set your New Moon intentions in the following 24 hrs.

 *

A note to all you stargazers out there – the day of this New Moon Tues 24 March is a fantastic opportunity to see Mercury and Venus (and a few days either side will be good too).  You’ll be able to see Mercury as a Morning Star in the east just before sunrise, quite low on the horizon, and Venus as an Evening Star in the west just after sunset, about 45 degrees from the horizon.  And then a few days after New Moon, you’ll see the Moon as a slim crescent close to Venus in the early evening sky, a truly beautiful sight – they’ll be closest on Sat 28 March.

Crisis – The Equinox and Saturn moving into Aquarius

Crisis – The Equinox and Saturn moving into Aquarius

Crisis chineseRemember the Chinese character for crisis?  It means “danger with opportunity”.  And yes, certainly this is a time of danger, but it’s also a time of opportunity as we take a collective breath and re-evaluate our priorities, our values, and the kind of life we want to life.

The Equinox is a point of balance in the passage of the seasons, and right now the Universe is giving us a stronger than usual opportunity to re-balance our lives.  The Equinox falls on Fri 20 March (AEST) as the Sun moves out of dreamy Pisces and into action-oriented Aries.

EquinoxSolstice

The Equinox marks the change of the seasons, the time of year when day and night are of equal length (equi-nox is Latin for ‘equal night’ ) and the seasons come to a point of balance.

In this new slowed-down reality, the Equinox is a perfect time for you to explore what might be out of balance in your own life and find a way to restore that balance, whether it’s in your relationships, your work-family life, or any other aspect of your life.  This can be a time of discovery, part of the collective shift that is starting to unfold.  The Equinox is exact at 1.49pm Queensland time (AEST), the previous day in the Americas.

Saturn moves into Aquarius on Sun 22 March (AEST), although it will only be briefly in this sign till 2 July when it heads back into Capricorn to finish its work there.  It will finally go into Aquarius for the next 2½ years at the end of this year on 17 Dec.

With Saturn starting to move through Aquarius, we’re likely to see regulation (or attempted regulation) towards people’s desires to do things differently at a collective level.  Aquarius is the sign of the collective, and it’s heartening to see how communities are responding during this time of crisis.  Positively, Saturn could bring structure and discipline into these areas, as people step up and take responsibility at the level of their communities, or perhaps use traditional wisdom as we fall back into more tried and tested ways of coping with extraordinary times – I loved Russell Brand’s comments about the wisdom of the Tao and how applicable it is to these times (I’ll share his post on my Chirone Shakti-Stargazer Astrology Facebook page so you can access it easily).

Negatively of course Saturn could seek to repress and impose restrictions, maybe even try to limit how we come together to tackle this crisis, because I have a feeling that people power will grow as people realize that yes, we can change the world, we can reduce emissions and climate change, these things are not as impossible as we thought – they’ve actually been forced upon us by this pandemic!  Universal basic income no longer looks so impossible, people are rediscovering the joys of having your own veggie plot.

Next year 2021 will be interesting because that’s when Saturn will be seriously challenged by its square to freedom-loving Uranus, so any authoritarian measures imposed now are not likely to last long.

Stay safe and keep well!

SuperMoon Full Moon in Virgo 2020

supermoonSuperMoon Full Moon in Virgo:  Tues 10 March 2020, exact at 3.47am Queensland time (AEST) at 19 degrees Virgo (the previous day in Europe & the Americas)

The Full Moon in Virgo this lunar month is another SuperMoon, the second in the consecutive sequence of four SuperMoons this year, intensifying the energies and heightening our emotional responses at these Full Moons.  SuperMoons are associated with extreme weather patterns, like all the storms and flooding we had with last month’s SuperMoon, so it doesn’t look like the extreme nature of the weather events we’re currently experiencing is likely to go away anytime soon.  In a SuperMoon, the Moon is closer to the Earth than usual, so the Full Moon appears larger in the sky, causing tides to be higher, and intensifying all the things you normally associate with a Full Moon, like feelings running high.  Full Moons tend to bring situations to a head, and this will be intensified by the SuperMoon – heads up police, emergency services and hospital workers!

The Full Moon falls in the early hours of Tues 10 March in Australia (the previous day in Europe and the Americas). The Full Moon in Virgo brings into focus our need for order and purity. Virgo is a very analytical sign, and as an Earth sign it is analytical in a practical way, trying to improve situations (and even people!) in its search for perfection.  The Virgo Full Moon highlights the need for balance between the grounded, practical attention to detail of Virgo, and the holistic vision of Pisces, and this will be intensified by the SuperMoon. The Full Moon is exact at 3.47am Queensland time (AEST), so the best night to celebrate the Full Moon will be the previous evening.  Check your birth chart to see which house is under the spotlight at 19 degrees Virgo.

I don’t know if you’ve been feeling it as much as I have, but this Mercury retro period has been making life quite frustrating for me (and a number of my friends) for the last few weeks even before it went retrograde on Monday 17 Feb!  It’s mainly been computer problems for me (sigh!) and clients re-arranging appointments, while friends went to catch what turned out to be a non-existent flight (!) then luckily were put onto the next flight – and upgraded too, so it’s not all bad!!!  The beauty of understanding the Astrology of all this is that it stops you frying … you see the cosmic joke, and often end up giggling like a loony! One of my favourite Mercury retro stories (I’ve got a few J ) was from a friend who had some computer issues, rang the techy guy who said “Well it’s Mercury retro now so there’s no point me trying to fix it yet – I’ll come over next week when it’s gone direct again”.  Good to see Astro-Enlightenment is spreading!!!

The New Moon falls in Pisces in the very early hours of Mon 24 Feb 2020 AEST (the previous day in Europe and the Americas).

In its positive manifestation, this New Moon signifies a renewed focus on spirituality and the desire to transcend our 3D reality. Pisces has a strong sense of divine homesickness, a longing to return to source and merge into oneness.  This New Moon is a great time to begin a new cycle of meditation and spiritual practices!   It’s also a wonderful time to begin a new cycle of creative pursuits, such as art, photography or music, essentially anything creative that takes you into that right-brain space of timelessness, a highly Neptunian experience!

When manifesting negatively however, Pisces (through its ruler Neptune) can bring illusion and deception, making us more gullible than usual, more prone to being deceived (and deceiving ourselves too!).  Be careful of falling under some kind of spell under the influence of this New Moon!!!  The Piscean urge to transcend reality can express negatively as escapism, any kind of escapism – which in its more extreme form can easily develop into addictive patterns of behaviour.

The New Moon in Pisces may also usher in a new cycle of compassion and the desire to help others. Just be careful that this doesn’t become an urge to rescue people, as you’ll disempower them in the process.  Pisces has a tendency towards self-sacrifice in the service of others, even to the point of martyrdom, so make sure you look after yourself first, otherwise you’ll be in no position to take care of others.  There’s a fine line between helping others and rescuing them, overstepping boundaries which essentially need to be respected and strengthened.  One of the best ways to empower people is to give them the space to make their own decisions, providing the invitation for them to step into that place of self-responsibility and empowerment.

Wherever you have 4 degrees of Pisces in your chart is the area of your life that will be affected by this New Moon – for example, if it falls in your 10th house, this signifies the beginning of a new cycle in your career or professional life.

If your birthday falls close to this date (within a day either side), this is the beginning of an important new cycle for you, especially with regard to your sense of identity and your purpose in life.

The New Moon is exact at 1.31am Queensland time (AEST).  Remember to set your New Moon intentions within 24 hours of the New Moon.

Supermoon Full Moon in Leo – first of four supermoons

supermoon Full Moon in Leo on Sun 9 Feb is the first of four consecutive Supermoons this year, appearing much larger and brighter in the sky than usual.  A Full Moon Supermoon occurs when the Full Moon coincides with the Moon’s closest point to the Earth in her monthly orbit, making the Full Moon appear much bigger in the night sky.  The effects we normally associate with the Full Moon are really heightened by the Supermoon, so we’re likely to experience a much higher emotional charge, tense situations reaching a climax, higher tides than usual and lots of extreme weather events at this time.

The Full Moon in Leo highlights our need for balance between the focus on oneself, the whole cultural “cult of the individual” approach that tends to be very self-absorbed, and a focus on one’s community, the collective experience where there’s a strong sense of equality and connection.   The Full Moon in Leo is an excellent time for partying or simply going out and enjoying yourself, maybe even simply treating yourself to something special, so celebrate in whatever way feels right for you.  The Full Moon is exact at 5.33pm AEST at 20 degrees of Leo and all these effects will be heightened by the fact that it’s a Supermoon.

..

The New Moon in Aquarius on Sat 25 Jan is an opportunity to begin a new cycle in authenticity.  To what extent are you really being true to yourself?  Do you feel free to be true to yourself?  Aquarius is a sign associated with freedom, authenticity, and equality at both the individual and collective level.  It is strongly non-conformist, needing to be different and unique, free of society’s expectations, a natural rebel (I can hear all the Aquarians cheering!!!)  It is also focused on social responsibility, connection at the level of mass consciousness and global humanitarian concerns.

Aquarius is an air sign, loving to debate ideas, the more original, inventive and zany the better.  Aquarians are very sociable and tend to be known as the party animals of the zodiac!

The New Moon is exact at 7.04am Queensland time (AEST) which means it will fall the previous day in Europe and the Americas.  Remember to set your New Moon intentions within 24 hours of the New Moon.

If your birthday is close to this date (within a day either side), this is the beginning of an important new cycle in your life in terms of your sense of identity and your purpose in the world.

Wherever you have 4 degrees of Aquarius in your birth chart indicates the area of life that will be most affected by this New Moon – for example, if this New Moon falls in your 10th house, this signifies the beginning of a new cycle in your career or professional life.

This New Moon also brings in the Chinese New Year Like many traditional cultures, the Chinese New Year is based on the lunar calendar, and this New Moon marks the beginning of the Chinese Lunar Year of the Metal Rat.

Lunar eclipse, Uranus s/d and Saturn-Pluto conjunction

penumbral lunar eclipseThe Full Moon in Cancer on Sat 11 Jan is a penumbral Lunar Eclipse (falling the previous day in Europe and the Americas) at 20 degrees Cancer during which time the Full Moon darkens.  The Full Moon in Cancer invites us to find a balance between the deep emotional connection of family and the outer, worldly achievement that is found in our work life. This Full Moon also highlights our emotional attachment to the past, so don’t be surprised if strong feelings get stirred up again, giving us the opportunity to finally let go and release the past.  The Lunar Eclipse is likely to intensify all the emotions highlighted by the Full Moon in Cancer.  This is a good time for us to reassess our unconscious, “autopilot” responses, and to change any behaviour that is no longer appropriate. There’s also a sense of a cycle which started on the solar eclipse of 13 July 2018 now coming to completion.  The Lunar Eclipse Full Moon is exact at 5.21am AEST, so the previous evening is the best night for Full Moon celebrations.

On the day of the lunar eclipse Sat 11 Jan, Uranus turns direct at 2 degrees Taurus.  Yes this is very close to the degree of the solar eclipse on Boxing Day, further intensifying the energy that’s around now.  We can expect some very emotional upheavals now!  Uranus is the Great Awakener, shaking up any sense we have of security or permanence (and how!).  Uranus forces us into unexplored territory, and as it turns direct again for the next 7 months, that’s where we’re heading!!  Uranus brings new insights and a higher level of awareness, yet it can also be disruptive, shaking things to their very foundation – sometimes even bringing down the whole structure in the urge to bring about revolutionary change.  In the words of Leonard Cohen “there is a crack, a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in”.  The more conscious we can be, and the more open we are to the changes that the Universe is demanding of us, the less disruptive this energy is likely to be.  If you are born around 22 April, or have 2 degrees Taurus strong in your chart, this Uranus standstill is likely to affect you deeply – a time to wake up and make some radical changes, reflect on your own truth and integrity, and a great cosmic opportunity to reinvent yourself.

The very next day, we have the conjunction that has been building for the last 12 months, the Saturn-Pluto conjunction.  Saturn is about control, discipline and structure, while Pluto is about power and transformation.  As with all astrological energies, these can manifest positively or negatively.  The positive expression of this combination of energies is responsible use of power, but negatively, it’s about power and control for their own sake, unchecked and ruthless.  An example would be the way that fear (Saturn) can be manipulated (Pluto) to justify wars or other extraordinary (and usually repressive) measures.  The Saturn-Pluto cycle is associated with an increase in authoritarian rule, ruthless power plays and the rise of right-wing ideology, and we’ve certainly seen plenty of that in the last 12 months as these two planets have got closer and closer.  The Saturn-Pluto conjunction is exact Mon 13 Jan 2020 at 2.58am AEST, the previous day in Europe and the Americas.

The Saturn-Pluto conjunction comes round every 33+ years, with its most recent manifestations in 1914, 1947 and 1982.  1914 saw the beginning of World War 1.  1947-48 saw major political upheaval with the partition of India, creating India, East and West Pakistan (later Bangladesh and Pakistan), and the partition of Palestine, creating the state of Israel. These divisions were along religious grounds and created huge conflict in these regions.  1982 saw the Falklands War (which got Maggie Thatcher re-elected) – and the Reagan-Thatcher years saw a huge lurch to the right with the introduction of neoliberalism.

The current move towards the right in so many countries of the world is all part of this pattern.  Religious intolerance is being stoked in many countries, for example the Citizenship Amendment Act in India which discriminates against Muslims, and the Religious Freedom (ie discrimination) bill in Australia.  Meanwhile the ICC is seeking to open a war crimes investigation in the West Bank and Gaza, after years of suffering by the Palestinians, a legacy of the partition from the last Saturn-Pluto contact.  Then of course there’s the racial intolerance that’s being stirred up by Brexit in the UK.  There is light among this darkness though.  Thankfully, in a few countries we are seeing the positive manifestation of this Saturn-Pluto energy, which is responsible use of power.  The shining example of New Zealand right now with the leadership of Jacinda Ardern is one that springs to mind!

Set powerful New Year’s Resolutions this Boxing Day!

Solar Eclipse New Moon in Capricorn 2019

Set powerful New Year’s Resolutions this Boxing Day!

Capricorn

We’re in eclipse season now, with both the New Moon and Full Moon eclipsed this lunar month.  This means the energies are extra intense right now, and unexpected changes are typical.  Please be extra mindful at this time and take extra care in this eclipse season!

The absolute best time to make your New Year’s resolutions is the New Moon in Capricorn, because it brings a sense of discipline to the new cycle that we’re about to start – in this case 2020!  The New Moon in Capricorn on Boxing Day is a Solar Eclipse, making any intentions you set now much more powerful than they would normally be.  This eclipsed New Moon in Capricorn is an excellent time to set your intentions for the year ahead!!

2020 is going to be a year of huge changes for us all, with some very significant alignments coming up, starting with the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in January.

***

The New Moon in Capricorn on Boxing Day Thurs 26 Dec is an annular solar eclipse. This is the absolute best time to make your New Year’s resolutions for 2020 as the energy of this eclipsed New Moon gives a very powerful boost to any intentions and resolutions you set now.

An annular solar eclipse has the force of a total solar eclipse, it’s just that the Moon, which is blocking out the Sun’s light, is further away from the Earth than usual, so it doesn’t completely cover the disc of the Sun.  Instead it allows a ring of light to be visible around the eclipsed Sun (‘annular’ comes from the Latin, meaning a ring). In terms of its astrological effects though, it’s a strong as a total eclipse.

Eclipse annular

A New Moon always represents the beginning of a new cycle in some part of your life.  The Capricorn New Moon invites renewed focus on self-discipline, responsibility, dealing with material reality, setting goals, improving time management and introducing more structure into your life – all in the service of moving forwards on your chosen path.  Remember the image of Capricorn the goat, moving slowly but steadily up the mountain, one step at a time, guaranteed to reach the summit.

Wherever you have Capricorn in your chart is the area of life that will be most strongly affected by this eclipsed New Moon – for example, if it is in your 6th house, this is an opportunity to bring more self-discipline into your daily routine and health regime; if it falls in the 2nd, this applies to your finances.  If you are not sure where Capricorn falls in your birth chart, think of the area of your life that could most benefit from some self-discipline right now – you’ll probably tune into it intuitively!

If your birthday falls close to this eclipsed New Moon, this is the beginning of a highly significant new cycle in your life in terms of your sense of identity and purpose in the world.  If 4 degrees Capricorn is strong in your chart, or if any of your planets fall at this degree, this indicates the beginning of a significant new cycle in the part of your life represented by that planet, eg relationships for Venus.

Remember to create your New Moon intentions within 24 hours of the New Moon.  The Solar Eclipse makes your intentions much more powerful than they would normally be, further enhanced by the presence of Jupiter in this eclipse configuration.  The New Moon is exact at 3.13pm AEST.
