1Aries

The New Moon falls in Aries on Mon 12 April, bringing the opportunity for a bold and exciting new start.  Aries’ natural approach to life is to take action, breaking new ground in a pioneering or even crusading venture, or taking up a cause that’s worth fighting for.

Aries on FireAs a Fire sign, Aries is full of enthusiasm and focused on the future.  Aries tends to act first and think later, hence its reputation for being impulsive, so take a moment to weigh your options before jumping in feet first!

In its positive manifestation, Aries is pioneering, boldly going where no–one has gone before, carving out a new, independent path and leading the way.  Aries tends to be fearless, the kind of leader who says “Follow me!” as they race ahead.  They’re also naturally competitive and like to be first.

When manifesting negatively however, Aries can be impatient, impulsive and aggressive, often with a quick temper.  Mars, the ruler of Aries, was after all the god of War.  Aries can also be very direct, hence its reputation for foot-in-mouth bluntness.

The Goddess Venus and Lord of the Underworld Pluto are in very close contact in this New Moon chart, in a pattern that suggests the potential for abuse of power towards the Feminine, yet also with the possibility of the Feminine rising up, facing the abuse and denigration, and stepping into a new place of female empowerment.  These themes are being played out right now in political circles in Australia and the UK especially, but are a common thread of experience for women everywhere.  With Uranus the Great Awakener moving through Venus-ruled Taurus, women are finally saying enough is enough, demanding an end to the culture that oppresses women so thoughtlessly. Things may come to a head at this New Moon, so stay tuned – the tide is definitely shifting.

If your birthday falls close to this date (within a day either side), this is the beginning of a significant new cycle in your life, particularly with regard to your sense of identity and purpose in life. The influence of Chiron means that this could be a significant new cycle in your own healing, or perhaps you’re at the stage where you can now bring healing into your work in some way.

New MoonThis New Moon falls at 22 degrees Aries.  If you have points in your birth chart close to this degree (within one degree) expect the part of your life associated with that planet (eg relationships for Venus) to begin a significant new cycle.

Wherever you have 22 degrees of Aries in your chart is the area of your life that will be affected by this New Moon – for example, if it falls in your 10th house, this signifies the beginning of a new cycle in your career or professional life.

The New Moon is exact at 12.30pm AEST.  Remember to set your New Moon intentions in the following 24 hrs.

Full Moon in Libra 2021 – the Lenten Moon

The Full Moon in Libra gives us an opportunity to bring our lives into balance, the cosmic invitation extended by the Equinox just nine days earlier.

This Full Moon in Libra highlights our need to relate to others, yet it also emphasizes the need to find a balance between the needs of the self and the needs of the other, between the need for independence and the need for compromise.  The Full Moon in Libra strongly reinforces the theme of the Equinox, the need to find balance in our lives.

The Full Moon falls at 8 degrees Libra, so check the houses of your chart to see which part of your life is under the spotlight.

The Full Moon is exact at 4.48am Queensland time (AEST) on Mon 29 March 2021 (the previous day in Europe and the Americas).  If you’re planning Full Moon ceremony, the best time will be the previous evening while the energies are still building.

This Full Moon is known as the Lenten Moon’ as it is the Full Moon before Easter.

Easter Sunday this year falls on 4 April.  ‘What’s this got to do with Astrology?’ I hear you ask …

Well, not many people realize but the date of Easter is determined astrologically, by the Moon and the Equinox.  Easter Sunday is set as the first Sunday after the first Full Moon (the ‘Lenten Moon’) following the Equinox.  This is why the date of Easter changes each year, sometimes falling at the end of March and sometimes much later in April.

Astrology is present in our everyday lives much more than most people realize!

March Equinox 2021: Time for Balance!

The Equinox falls on Sat 20 March as the Sun moves out of dreamy Pisces and into action-oriented Aries.
 .
The Equinox marks the change of the seasons, the time of year when day and night are of equal length and the seasons come to a point of balance (equi-nox is Latin for ‘equal night’).
 .
This is a perfect time to explore what might be out of balance in your own life and find a way to restore that balance, whether it’s in your relationships, your work-family life, or any other aspect of your life.
 .
The Equinox is exact at 7.37pm Queensland time (AEST).

The New Moon in Pisces on Sat 13 March is the most beautiful, romantic New Moon with Venus and Neptune closely configured, enhancing the yearning for souls to merge into oneness and spiritual ecstasy – whether that’s in spiritual practices or with a love partner.

A New Moon in Pisces always signifies a renewed focus on spirituality and the desire to transcend our 3D reality. Pisces has a strong sense of divine homesickness, a spiritual longing to return to source and merge into oneness.  This New Moon is a great time to begin a new cycle of meditation and spiritual practices!

Pisces is also associated with imagination and creativity (through its Neptune rulership), and with Venus and Neptune part of this New Moon line-up, this is an excellent time to begin a new cycle of creative pursuits, such as art, photography or music, essentially anything that takes you into that right-brain space of timelessness, a highly Neptunian experience!

The downside of Pisces however, is illusion and deception, making us more gullible than usual, more prone to being deceived (and deceiving ourselves!).  Be careful of falling under some kind of spell under the influence of this New Moon – especially falling in love and only seeing the beloved through rose-coloured glasses!

The Piscean urge to transcend reality can express negatively as escapism, any kind of escapism – which in its most extreme forms can develop into addictive patterns of behaviour. This New Moon is therefore a great opportunity to begin a new cycle in any escapist tendencies (or even addictions) that you’re aware of – focus on transforming them (maybe sublimating them) into more creative or spiritual pursuits.

The New Moon in Pisces may also usher in a new cycle of compassion and the desire to help others. Just be careful that this doesn’t become an urge to rescue people.  Pisces has a tendency towards self-sacrifice in the service of others, even to the point of martyrdom, so make sure you look after yourself first, otherwise you’ll be in no position to take care of others.  There’s a fine line between helping others and rescuing them, overstepping boundaries which essentially need to be respected and strengthened.  One of the best ways to empower people is to give them the space to make their own decisions, providing the invitation for them to step into that place of self-responsibility and empowerment.

Wherever you have 23 degrees of Pisces in your chart is the area of your life that will be affected by this New Moon – for example, if it falls in your 10th house, this signifies the beginning of a new cycle in your career or professional life.

If your birthday falls close to this date (within a day either side), this is the beginning of an important new cycle for you, especially with regard to your sense of identity and your purpose in life.

The New Moon is exact at 8.21pm Queensland time (AEST).

Remember to set your New Moon intentions within 24 hours of the New Moon.

Full Moon in Virgo 2021

The Full Moon in Virgo on Sat 27 Feb brings into focus our need for order and purity, with issues of health and hygiene really likely to come to the fore.

Issues concerning the pandemic will probably reach a peak at this time.  This could go either way, and that will depend on each country and the measures they’ve taken.  This Full Moon is likely to see either the lockdown and quarantine measures pay off big time, or (in other situations) the pandemic may spiral out of control.

Part of the energy of this Full Moon is that our need for connection (Venus in Pisces) is completely at odds with our need to keep the situation contained and sterile (Full Moon in Virgo).  It’s a tough balancing act and we need to find ways to integrate this polarity.

Virgo is a very analytical sign, and as an Earth sign it is analytical in a practical way, trying to improve situations (and even people!) in its search for perfection.

Virgo is great at the details, yet often loses sight of the overall picture, a quality associated with its opposite sign Pisces.

The Virgo Full Moon asks us to balance the microcosmic attention to detail of Virgo with the macrocosmic holistic vision of Pisces.

The ideal outcome here is to integrate a practical level of detail with the overarching vision of the way forward where the level of connection people are desiring is not only possible but also achievable.  Hold the vision, yet stay grounded in the practical details too!

The Full Moon is exact at 6.17pm AEST.  Check your birth chart to see which house is under the spotlight at 8 degrees Virgo.

Mercury goes direct!

We can all heave a sigh of relief as Mercury goes direct after three weeks of its usual communication challenges, delays and frustrations.

Mercury goes direct on Sun 21 Feb stationing at 11 degrees Aquarius after its recent retrograde period.  The frustrations of the last three weeks will now ease and communications become a lot smoother again.

In the days leading up to Mercury going direct, continue to double-check appointments, that you have your keys with you, and that messages get through OK.

Remember that confusion and misunderstandings occur much more easily at this time.

Try to delay any major purchases or contract-signing till at least a week after Mercury’s gone direct again.

Cracks in the system – first Saturn-Uranus square

Screen Shot 2021-02-14 at 11.26.56 am

The first of three Saturn–Uranus squares this year is exact on Thurs 18 Feb.  This energy combination of the old vs the new is the hallmark signature of 2021, and is certainly part of the massive polarization that is playing out in so many different areas of society.

Uranus is the planet of innovation, a new direction that disrupts the status quo, one that is usually exciting and renders the old systems obsolete, probably bringing them crashing down around our ears.  I call it “earthquake” energy because that’s what it feels like.  The old system is shaken up and has to crack open in order to let in the light, the light of conscious awareness and expose those hidden parts where maybe there have been misuses (or even abuses) of power.

Saturn is the planet that represents the status quothe old order, the entrenched system that may have become rigid and resistance to change.  To the old order, the prospect of the changes that Uranus is bringing is terrifying, as everything they know and hold dear could come crashing down!!!  Chaos!!!  And they’re right up to a point, because the lower vibration of Uranus is chaos and revolution, even anarchy.  So they try to resist the changes that are hurtling towards them.

Every planet has its higher and lower vibrations, and the cosmic invitation with this Saturn-Uranus square is to integrate the positive qualities of these two vastly different energies.

The higher vibration of Saturn is clear boundaries, responsibility and structure, such as providing frameworks, regulations and laws.  But one of the negative ways that Saturn can manifest is control, based in fear, so the question that arises is: is Saturn creating clear boundaries to protect people and protect society, or is it being repressive?

Similarly, is Uranus championing individual rights and freedoms, innovations and new technology that can benefit humanity, or is it being rebellious for the sake of it?  Or possibly even autocratic, another of Uranus’ negative faces?  How disruptive is this likely to be, and at what human cost?  Is anarchy on the cards?

The kind of challenges that we’re already seeing arising with this Saturn-Uranus square are:

  • Regulation (Saturn) of the big tech companies (Uranus)
  • Mandatory laws (Saturn) vs individual rights and freedoms (Uranus) (especially around the pandemic)
  • The banking system (Saturn) vs cryptocurrency (Uranus)

It’s possible that on some topics, you’d side with Saturn, and on others you’d side with Uranus, that’s natural.  However what the Universe is really inviting us to do, is to find a way through the polarization and integrate the positive expression of these two energies, such as providing a legal framework (Saturn) that supports an innovation (Uranus).

In the first exact Saturn-Uranus square, the Moon is close to Uranus, which suggests that people will identify more with Uranus, and that individual rights and personal freedoms are likely to be a hot topic during this first contact.

(If you’d like to hear more on this fascinating topic, I discuss the Saturn-Uranus squares of 2021 further in my Paradigm Shift webinar which is now available as a recording.)

A bumpy Valentine’s Day?

99419DE7-44F8-4FB0-B164-0C79D0C1DBAC_4_5005_cThe Moon is in dreamy, romantic Pisces for Valentine’s Day this year, yet it could well be a bumpy Valentine’s Day for the lovers Venus and Mars.

Venus has been in Aquarius since 2 Feb, and in Aquarius she loves socializing and debating ideas with people, usually ideas that affect humanity at a global level.  She’s quite the party girl and she loves her freedom.

Meanwhile Mars is in sensuous and patient Taurus, but Taurus can get a tad possessive, so there’s strong potential for the lovers to clash as we move towards Valentine’s Day on 14 Feb.

Aquarius and Taurus are both Fixed signs, which means neither of the lovers will be willing to give ground – expect some digging in of heels on both sides!!!

This energy of tension between them will continue to build till 20 Feb when it will be at its strongest at 23 degrees Aquarius/Taurus.
