Strong healing vibes at Cancer Full Moon

Strong healing vibes at Cancer Full Moon – and a note of caution for New Year’s Eve!

Full Moon clouds

The Full Moon in Cancer falls on the morning of Wed 27 Dec 2023 AEST.

The Full Moon in Cancer invites us to find a balance between the deep emotional connection of family and the outer, worldly achievement that is found in our work & professional life.

This Full Moon also highlights our emotional attachment to the past, so don’t be surprised if strong feelings get stirred up now, particularly around family, giving us the opportunity to finally heal, let go and release the past.  This is a good time for us to reassess our unconscious, “autopilot” responses, and to change any behaviour that is no longer appropriate.

Chiron turns direct this same day at 15 Aries, adding to the strong healing theme of this Full Moon.

Check your birth chart to see which house is under the Full Moon spotlight at 4 degrees Cancer as this is the area of your life where matters may well come to fruition or be revealed.

The Full Moon is exact on Wed morning at 10.33am Queensland time (AEST), so the best time for ceremony or celebrations will be the Tuesday evening while the energy is still building.

Jupiter goes direct on New Year’s Eve Sun 31 Dec at 5 Taurus, adding a note of excess and worldly pleasures to New Year’s celebrations this year!  Be aware of any tendencies or desires you may have to go completely over the top and throw caution to the winds – you’ll only end up paying for it in the New Year!

December Solstice 2023

December Solstice 2023

winter solstice Newgrange

The December solstice falls on Fri 22 Dec at 1.27pm AEST (Queensland time) and has a very harmonious and grounded energy this year with the Sun exactly trine the Moon in Taurus.

This Solstice is when the Sun reaches its southernmost position overhead at the Tropic of Capricorn (remember that from geography in primary school? 😀). Guess what, the Tropic of Capricorn takes its name from Astrology, from the fact that the Sun moves into the tropical zodiac sign of Capricorn on this day.

The word solstice comes from Latin meaning ‘the Sun stands still’. If you follow the position of sunrise along the horizon during the year, you’ll notice it changes with the seasons. At the solstices in Dec and June, the Sun reaches its furthest point in one direction before returning towards the centre point again. Many ancient sacred sites were aligned with the sun’s position at the solstice, creating a magical effect at the solstice sunrise, including standing stone circles such as Stonehenge and the Newgrange monument in Ireland.

In the southern hemisphere, the December Solstice is the longest day of the year and the shortest night, traditional midsummer time. You’ll notice this more the further south you are, where the days will be very long. After this, days get shorter as we start to move towards autumn and eventually into winter.

In the northern hemisphere the seasons are reversed, and so the December Solstice is of course the Winter Solstice, traditional midwinter time, the shortest day and the longest night, after which the days start to lengthen again and the world returns from the darkness of winter – quite literally in Northern Europe where the hours of daylight are very short indeed at midwinter! This was the origin of the Celtic festival of Yule, signifying the return of the light.

Solstices have always been traditional mid-season times of celebration and feasting. Have a wonderful Solstice, whether you’re celebrating midsummer or midwinter! ❤️

December Lunar Phases & Moon Planting Guide ☘️🍃🎋

I’m posting this out a bit earlier than usual so you have a heads up about the upcoming Mercury retrograde. We’re already in the retro shadow (if you haven’t noticed!) – I’ve found myself on 3 separate occasions in the last few days having to turn round and go back for something I’d forgotten … 😀 gotta see the cosmic joke!  So get your travel plans and your major Christmas purchases finalised as soon as you can, well before Mercury actually goes retro.  You’ll see below that Mercury turns retro on the day of the New Moon, 13 Dec.  If you’re in my Astro*Travels group on Facebook, you’ll have seen my posts about this and hopefully you’re on top of it!

After the muted start to Sagittarius season, we can fully embrace Sagittarian energy at the New Moon in Sagittarius on Wed 13 Dec.  This represents an opportunity to begin a new cycle in your life that’s adventurous, enthusiastically exploring new frontiers, feeling the need to enjoy life to the full.  It is a perfect time to start on a spiritual quest, a course of study or overseas travel – anything that expands your horizons. The travel can of course be internal – a spiritual journey, to the truth of who you are.

Sagittarius is a Fire sign, warm and enthusiastic, naturally optimistic and with an undying trust in the Universe.  Sagittarians love to explore and go on adventures, not just for the fun of it, but because they’re also motivated by a quest to discover the Meaning of Life. Their sign is ruled by confident Jupiter, in a supportive aspect to the New Moon, which increases the trademark Sagittarian boundless enthusiasm and confidence.  On the downside (every sign has its downside), Sagittarians can have a tendency to go over the top, taking risks through being over-confident, and then over-extending themselves, not knowing when or where to stop. Keep an eye on your finances!

Find where this New Moon falls in your chart at 20 degrees Sagittarius and tune into the new departure that could be starting for you now.  The house placement will show you which part of your life is most affected.

If your birthday is close to this New Moon (within a day either side), this marks the beginning of a significant new cycle in your life in terms of your identity and your sense of purpose.

If you have a planet at 20 degrees of Sagittarius, this marks the beginning of a new cycle in whatever that planet symbolizes (eg relationships for Venus).

Set your New Moon intentions within 24 hours of the New Moon, exact at 9.32am AEST (Queensland time).

On the same day as the New Moon, Mercury turns retrograde and will be up to its usual tricks, scrambling communications so don’t be surprised if you end up with double-bookings, missed bookings, messages not getting through, needing to return purchases – and increased chances of delayed flights.

During any Mercury retro period, it pays to double-check everything. Check those reservations. Keep those receipts safe. Check that those messages actually got through, especially if you haven’t heard back.  Check you have your keys with you when you leave the house.  Take a book with you to the airport and be prepared for delays – that way you won’t fry if it actually happens, and can be pleasantly surprised if all goes smoothly.  Patience will help tremendously.

Mercury is retro for 3 weeks from 13 Dec to 2 Jan 2024.
